Jewellery cost calculator
Add weight, your gold rate, making charges and GST to estimate the total — with every part of the bill shown.
Edit to today's rate for the gold you are weighing.
Total = gold value + GST. Gold value = weight in grams × rate.
Estimated cost
An estimate for guidance only — actual prices vary by jeweller and hallmarking or wastage charges.
Gold weight = gross weight − stone weight (1 ct = 0.2 g). Gold value = gold weight × rate. Making charge is a percentage of the gold value. Subtotal = gold value + making + stone price + hallmark + additional charges. The discount comes off the subtotal, then GST applies to the taxable amount.

How a gold jewellery bill is built
- Gold value: net gold weight (gross weight minus stones) × your rate for that purity.
- Making charges: the crafting fee — either ₹ per gram or a percentage of the gold value.
- Extras: stone price, hallmarking fee and any additional charges, minus any discount.
- GST: applied to the total after discount — 3% by default in the calculator, adjustable to match your bill.
The calculator above reproduces this bill line by line, so you can see exactly where a quote comes from.
Comparing quotes between jewellers
Ask every shop for the same breakdown: the gold rate for the hallmark purity, net weight, making charges, other fees and GST. Two quotes for the “same” piece usually differ in the making charges — the most negotiable line on the bill.
Also confirm whether wastage or “value addition” is charged separately or already inside the making charges, and that the rate used matches the purity stamped on the hallmark.
Frequently asked questions
What are making charges?
The jeweller's fee for crafting the piece — quoted either as ₹ per gram or as a percentage of the gold value. They vary by design and shop, and are often negotiable.
How much GST applies to gold jewellery?
The calculator applies 3% GST — the standard rate for gold jewellery — on the taxable amount after discount. You can change the rate to match your bill; jewellers who bill making charges separately may show a different split.
What is wastage or value addition (VA)?
An extra percentage some jewellers add for metal lost while crafting, sometimes shown as 'VA'. Ask whether it is already included in the making charges before comparing quotes.
How do I compare quotes between jewellers?
Ask each shop for the same breakdown — gold rate for the hallmark purity, net weight, making charges, other fees and GST — then compare line by line. The calculator reproduces that bill so you can test each quote.
